Frequently asked questions
Answers about Stadium Room: which lights work, Apple Music and Spotify, sync, hardware, and setting up Philips Hue, Govee and WLED.
General
What is Stadium Room?
+
Stadium Room is an iPhone app for making light shows synced to music. You pick a song from Apple Music, design the show on a timeline, and your Philips Hue, Govee and WLED lights play it on the beat.
Which smart lights does it work with?
+
Philips Hue (through a Hue Bridge), Govee Wi-Fi lights with LAN Control turned on, WLED controllers, and Aura lights (ESP32 controllers running the app's firmware). One show can play across all of them at once.
Do I need Apple Music?
+
To play a show to a song, yes: the app follows Apple Music playback to keep the lights in time, and playing full songs requires an Apple Music subscription. Without one you can still build shows on a free timeline with no song, and use the Control tab to put a look on your lights.
Does it work with Spotify?
+
Not today. Spotify no longer gives new apps access to the playback information needed for sync. Apple Music is supported now.
How is this different from a music or mic mode?
+
Mic modes react to whatever sound reaches the microphone, so they flash on loud moments and miss the structure of the song. A Stadium Room show is designed for a specific song and plays against that song's own clock, so every effect lands where you put it.
Do I need to buy a hub or new hardware?
+
No. Hue lights use the Hue Bridge you already have. Govee and WLED lights connect directly over your Wi-Fi. There is nothing else to buy.
Do the lights stay in sync with each other?
+
Yes. Each brand adds a different network delay, so the app has a one-time sync calibration per brand. After that, Hue, Govee and WLED lights flash on the same beat.
Can I try it without any smart lights?
+
Yes. Virtual lights run the same rendering engine inside the app, so you can design and preview a full show before connecting anything.
Does the phone have to stay open?
+
Wi-Fi lights (Hue, Govee, WLED) follow a show while the app is open and playing. Aura lights store the show and keep playing on their own.
Can I use light shows other people made?
+
Yes. The Discover tab lists shows people have published, by song. Search for a song, preview a show, and tap Get show to add it to your library and play it on your own lights. No account is needed to browse or get shows.
Can I share my light shows?
+
Yes. Long-press a show in the Shows tab and choose Publish to Discover. Anyone can then find it under that song. Publishing needs a free account so people can see who made it.
Do I need an account?
+
No. You can make shows, play them, and browse and get shows from Discover without signing in. An account is only needed to publish your shows or save ones you like. You can sign in with Apple, with Google, or with a code sent to your email.
How do I report a person or a show?
+
In the app, open the show or the person's profile, tap ••• and choose Report, then pick a reason. We review every report, and the person you report isn't told who reported them. For an urgent safety issue, also email us.
How do I contact support?
+
In the app, go to Settings → Help & feedback; when you're signed in you can see our replies there. You can also use the contact form on this website or email support@stadiumroom.app. A person replies, usually within two business days.
Is there an Android version?
+
Not yet. The app is available for iPhone first.
What does it cost?
+
Stadium Room is free to download.
Philips Hue
Does Stadium Room work with Philips Hue?
+
Yes. Stadium Room connects to the Hue Bridge and streams to colour bulbs, light strips and gradient lights using Hue's Entertainment API. You need a Hue Bridge; Bluetooth-only Hue bulbs without a bridge can't stream.
How many Hue lights can play a show at once?
+
Up to 20 channels per Hue Bridge, which is a limit of the bridge. A regular colour bulb is one channel and each segment of a gradient light is one channel.
Do I need Hue Sync or a Hue Play HDMI Sync Box?
+
No. Stadium Room talks to the Hue Bridge directly. It replaces nothing you own and needs no extra hardware.
Govee
Does Stadium Room work with Govee lights?
+
Yes, with Wi-Fi Govee lights that support LAN Control. Turn on LAN Control for each light in the Govee Home app, then add it in Stadium Room. Bluetooth-only Govee models are not supported.
Why isn't my Govee light showing up?
+
Check that LAN Control is on for that light, that it's on 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi on the same network as your iPhone, and that Stadium Room is allowed to use the local network in iOS Settings. You can also add the light by IP address.
Is this better than Govee's built-in music mode?
+
It's different. Govee's music mode reacts to sound picked up by a microphone. Stadium Room plays a show you designed for a specific song, timed to the song itself, and can run it across Govee, Hue and WLED lights together.
WLED
Does Stadium Room work with WLED?
+
Yes. Stadium Room streams to WLED controllers over Wi-Fi using DDP, with per-LED colour. There's nothing to configure in WLED; it accepts the stream automatically.
What happens to my WLED preset when a show ends?
+
WLED returns to whatever effect it was running a couple of seconds after the stream stops.
Aura lights
What is an Aura light?
+
An ESP32 microcontroller and an addressable LED strip running Stadium Room's firmware. It stores shows on the device and plays them in sync from a clock signal over Bluetooth.
